Kuhn' fourth rebound in the game gave the Salem, Ore., native 1,000 career boards. The senior had 13 total versus the Lady Griz and now has 1,009 rebounds in her stellar career. The Big Sky record is 1,174, set by Idaho State's Natalie Doma in 2008. Kuhns broke the previous school record of 931 rebounds earlier this season against Utah Valley on Nov. 20.
The Hornets (5-5, 1-1 Big Sky) split its league-opening road trip at the Montana schools. Sacramento State made eight of its last nine shots as they defeated Montana State on Thursday night but went cold on Saturday. The Lady Griz (8-3, 2-0) moved to first place in the conference standings.
While they closed strong against Montana State, the Hornets started out hot against Montana. Sacramento State led by as much as six points at 13-7 with 16:10 left in the first half but the Lady Griz responded with a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 22-15 lead and never trailed again.
Fantasia Hilliard shined for the Hornets with 14 first-half points before finishing with a season-high 20 points. Kuhns had her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. No other Hornet scored more than five points. tied her career-high with nine rebounds.
Montana had nine players score five-or-more points, led by Katie Baker's 12. Baker, Alyssa Smith and Carly Selvig each had a team-high nine rebounds.
Sacramento State shot 28.6 percent overall on 20-of-70 shooting, including 3-of-15 from three-point range. The Hornets snagged 48 rebounds, committed 15 turnovers and tallied 10 assists. They went 12-of-18 at the free throw line, with Hilliard going 6-of-7 from the stripe.
Montana shot 40 percent from the field on 30-of-75 shooting, with 8-of-24 coming from beyond the arc. The Lady Griz grabbed 51 rebounds and were pressured into nine turnovers with 20 assists. They went 14-of-16 at the free throw line.
Sacramento State will take some time off for the holidays before returning home to play rival UC Davis on Dec. 30 in the Hornets' final non-conference game of the season. became just the fifth player in Big Sky Conference history to reach 1,000 career rebounds, but the Sacramento State women's basketball team shot just 25.6 percent from the field and lost, 82-55, at Montana in a league game on Saturday afternoon at Dahlberg Arena.
