MISSOULA, Mont. -- Katie Edwards scored a career-high 18 points and Hollie Tyler added 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds to lead Montana to a 75-45 victory over Sacramento State in a Big Sky Conference women’s basketball game Thursday evening at Dahlberg Arena.

With the victory, Montana has now won seven of its last eight games while improving to 17-7 overall and 8-3 in the Big Sky. Sacramento State lost for the 13th-sraight time while falling to 2-23 and 0-12 in the conference. The Hornets have now dropped 36-consecutive Big Sky games over the last three years. In addition, Montana improved its record to 14-0 all-time against Sacramento State.

Montana took an early 8-7 lead with 13:49 to play in the first half before going on a 15-2 run to open up a 23-9 lead with 5:30 remaining in the half. The Hornets, however, scored eight-straight points (including six by junior Diane Peterson) to narrow the margin to 23-17 with 3:40 remaining in the half. Montana finished the half on a 9-4 run to go into the break with a 32-21 lead.

Sacramento State kept the game close in the first half despite shooting just 19.2 percent (5-26) from the field. The Grizzlies opened the second half on a 17-6 run to take a 50-27 lead with 11:49 remaining in the contest. The Grizzlies never trailed by anything less than 21 points the rest of the way as the team led by as many as 32 points before settling for the 30-point victory.

Edwards’ 18 points came on 6-of-10 shooting as Montana shot 40.0 percent from the floor (24-60) and 76.7 percent (23-30) from the free throw line. Sacramento State, conversely, went to the free throw line just 17 times (converting 13) and was whistled for 10 more fouls (23-13) during the contest.

Crystal Baird added 11 points to round out the three Lady Griz players in double figures. Montana forced the Hornets into 25 turnovers as Sacramento State shot 28.8 percent (15-52) from the field and tallied just nine assists.

Sarah Craig was the only player to score in double figures for the Hornets as the freshman finished with 10 points to go along with a game-high three steals. In her first start since the middle of December, freshman Katelyn Ciampi finished with seven points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Junior Danielle Iceman finished with nine points, snapping a string of three-consecutive games in which she had scored in double figures. Six different Hornets recorded at least three turnovers as the team’s 25 turnovers were the eighth-worst mark of the season.

Sacramento State, which has been officially eliminated from Big Sky Tournament play, returns to action for its final road game of the season this Saturday, March 1, at Montana State. The Hornets close the season on Saturday, March 8, against Northern Arizona at home. Senior Crystal Conley will be honored prior to the game for her contributions to the program.
