FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Northern Arizona tied its program record for most points scored (101) and set the program record for fewest points allowed (29) as the Lumberjacks defeated Sacramento State, 101-29, in a Big Sky Conference women’s basketball game Saturday evening at the Walkup Skydome.

Northern Arizona won its second in a row while improving its record to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in the Big Sky. Sacramento State, which tied its own program record for largest margin of defeat (72 points), dropped to 0-16 and 0-3 in the conference.

The Lumberjacks began the game on a 24-2 run and never looked back as the 72-point spread was the team’s largest lead of the night. Northern Arizona, which was led by Constance Richard’s 26 points, shot 50.6 percent (41-81) from the field, 53.3 percent (8-15) from beyond the three-point line and outrebounded the Hornets, 51-25. The Hornets recorded season lows in points (29), three-pointers made (zero), free throws made and attempted (one), rebounds (25) and steals (two). Sacramento State was outscored in the first half, 53-18, and outscored in the second half, 48-11. Northern Arizona’s 41 field goals were the most allowed by Sacramento State this season.

The Hornets turned the ball over 33 times and recorded just five offensive rebounds. Sophomore Alyson Thurman scored 19 of the team’s 29 points as the forward finished 9-of-19 from the field while also pacing the squad with eight rebounds. Only three other Sacramento State players scored including Kendra Yancey (four points), Samantha Miller (four points) and Danielle Iceman (two points).

Sophomore point guard Sydney Gatson missed the game with a viral infection as Sacramento State has now dropped 26-straight games dating back to last season.

Eleven Northern Arizona players cracked into the scoring column while 13 Lumberjacks each played at least six minutes.

Sacramento State returns to action next week as it travels north to face Montana State (Thursday, Jan. 24) and Montana (Saturday, Jan. 26).
