WOMEN'S HOOPS STUMBLES VS. RIVAL UC DAVIS

Sami Field-Polisso had a team-high 11 points, but the Hornets fell to UC Davis on Sunday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's basketball team dropped it's final non-conference game of the 2010-11 season on Sunday afternoon, with a 78-55 loss to UC Davis at The Nest.

The Hornets fall to 3-10 with the loss while UC Davis improves to 8-2. The Aggies clinched 10 points in the 2010-11 Causeway Cup with the victory.

Sami Field-Polisso paced the Hornets with 11 points, including three 3-pointers, while Mallorie Franco also scored in double-digits with 10 points. Kylie Kuhns, the nation's leading rebounder, had a game-high 12 boards to go with nine points.

UC Davis had four players in double-figures scoring with Heidi Heintz's game-high 14 leading the way. The Aggies had 10 players scored in the game.

It was a back-and-forth game in the first half, with the ball game tied up a 24-24 with 5:09 left before halftime. But the Aggies put together a 14-4 run in those final minutes of the first half. Heintz hit a 3-point basket with one second left on the clock to give UC Davis a 10-point halftime lead.

The Aggies used that momentum in the second half, as they pushed the run up to 24-5 and their lead up to 17 points at 48-29 with 16:45 left in the game. The Hornets would cut the lead down to 14 later in the second half but could not rally against their rivals.

Sacramento State shot 34.5-percent from the floor on 20-of-58 shooting, including 8-of-32 from 3-point range. The Hornets snagged 39 rebounds, committed 22 turnovers and had14  assists on their 20 made baskets. They went 7-of-12 at the free throw line.

UC Davis shot 40-percent overall on 30-of-75 shooting, with 6-of-25 coming from beyond the arc. The Aggies grabbed 50 rebounds, were pressured into 14 turnovers and had 16 assists on 30 made hoops. They went 12-of-18 at the free throw line.

The Hornets are now off for more than two weeks, with their next game coming up on Jan. 6 at Montana State to open up Big Sky Conference action. Sacramento State's next home game is against Eastern Washington on Jan. 13 at 7:05 p.m.
