WOMEN'S HOOPS FALLS AT CS FULLERTON

Kylie Kuhns had her third straight game with 20+ points in a loss at Cal State Fullerton.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's basketball team lost 100-74 on Thursday to Cal State Fullerton at Titan Gym. The Hornets fall to 3-7 on the season while the Titans improve to 4-6.

The Hornets got another 20-point performance from sophomore Kylie Kuhns and another 10-point game from freshman Shanti Smith but could not rally back from a 19-point halftime deficit against Cal State Fullerton.

Kuhns scored 22 points, her third straight game over 20 points, and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Hornets in both statistical categories while Smith had her second straight game with 10 points and fourth of her rookie season. Kuhns continues to pace the NCAA in rebounds with 13.4 per game.

The Titans were led by Megan Richardson and Lyndsey Grove, who each had 20 points, Jenna Breite's game-high 12 rebounds.

Up eight points with 6:24 left in the first half, Cal State Fullerton went on a 21-10 run to close out the period and take a 19 point lead in halftime. The Titans then opened up the second half on a 22-9 run to put the game out of reach.

Sacramento State shot 41.7-percent from the floor on 30-of-72 shooting, including 4-of-16 from 3-point range. The Hornets snagged 35 rebounds, committed 24 turnovers and had nine assists on their 30 made baskets. They went 10-of-12 at the free throw line.

CSUF shot 51.2-percent overall on 42-of-82 shooting, with 3-of-16 coming from beyond the arc. The Titans grabbed 51 rebounds, were pressured into 16 turnovers and had 28 assists on 42 made hoops. They went 13-of-17 at the free throw line.


Sacramento State will be back in action this weekend when they play at Boise State at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday to conclude a three-game road trip. The Hornets host Seattle and UC Davis next weekend.
