WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO MONTANA STATE ON THE ROAD

BOZEMAN, Mont. - The Sacramento State women's basketall team fell to the Montana State Bobcats by a score of 78-63 on Saturday, February 14 at Worthington Arena.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 6-19 overall, 4-8 in the Big Sky Conference, while the Bobcats improve to 10-13 overall, 4-7 inside of the Big Sky.
Sacramento State started strong, taking a 19-13 lead with 11:12 remaining in the first half on a layup by senior Atty Boyer (Sacramento, Calif.). Montana State fought back to retake a one point lead at 22-21 with 7:38 left, and the two teams traded the lead back and forth the remainder of the half, going into the break tied at 34-34.
After a made free throw by Montana State's Nubia Garcia after halftime gave the Bobcats a 35-34 lead, the Hornets retook the lead on a made layup by junior Erika Edwards (Redmond, Wash.). The lead was shortlived, Garcia gave the Bobcats the lead once again with a layup less than a minute later, and the last the Hornets would have in the contest. Sacramento State cut a 53-44 Bobcat lead down to 57-52 with 7:44 remaining on a three-pointer by junior Charday Hunt (Portland, Ore.), but Montana State put the game away from their with an 8-0 run.
Hunt led all scorers with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, including 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc, and 6-of-6 from the foul line. Boyer added 14 points and six rebounds, while Edwards scored 10 points, all in the second half, while also adding six rebounds. Sophomore Sami Field-Polisso (Mountain View, Calif.) scored nine points, while sophomore Emily Christensen scored six points and added eight rebounds off the bench.
Montana State had five players reach double-figures, with Erica Perry leading the way with 16 points. Sarah Strand added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Garcia (13 points), Katie Bussey (11 points) and Mara Hoefer (10 points) each scoring in double-digits.
Montana State forced 27 Hornet turnovers, scoring 37 points of turnovers, while holding a 46-22 advantage in points in the paint.
The Hornets will head to Northern Arizona for their final home game of the year next Saturday, February 21, at the Walkup Skydome. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
