WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO FRESNO STATE DESPITE CAREER-HIGH 19 FROM HUNT

FRESNO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's basketball team fell to Fresno State by a score of 81-58 on Fri., Dec. 21 at the Save Mart Center.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 2-9 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-8.
The first half saw the teams set their own pace, with the officials intervening on just seven fouls, including just one for the Bulldogs. Fresno State was able to capitalize on 16 Hornet turnovers to build their largest lead of the half at the end of the half, at 23 points. Bulldogs leading scorer Tierre Wilson match her season scoring average in the first stanza, scoring 17 points, while sophomore Charday Hunt (Oregon City, Ore.) tied her career-high with 11 points in the half.
For the half, the Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field (18-of-36), while limiting the Hornets to 39.1 percent (9-of-23). Fresno State forced 16 Hornet turnovers, while committing just five of their own.
Fresno State continued the pressure in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 15-7 to begin the half, building to their largest lead of the game at 33. Sacramento State cut the deficit down to 22 at one point, but the Bulldogs shot 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27) in the half, securing a 81-58 victory.
Hunt finished with a career-high 19 points, while freshman Tika Koshiyama-Diaz (San Jose, Calif.) added a career-high 10 points, including 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the three-point arc, off of the Hornet bench.
Wilson led all scorers with 20 points for the Bulldogs, while Jalessa Ross (15), Hayley Munro (13), and Bailey Amundsen (12) finished in double figures.
For the game, the Bulldogs outshot the Hornets 52.4 percent to 40.4 percent, while outrebounding Sacramento State by a 42-28 margin. The Hornets turned the ball over just five times in the second half, finishing with 21 turnovers, to Fresno State's 17.
The Hornets will take eight days off before hosting Portland in their non-conference finale on Dec. 30 at 2:05 p.m. at the Hornets Nest before opening Big Sky action against Portland State on Jan. 3 at 7:05 p.m., also at the Hornets Nest.
