WOMEN’S HOOPS ENDS NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE WITH 63-42 LOSS AT GEORGE WASHIGNTON

WASHINGTON, DC. - Sacramento State dropped its third straight game, falling 63-42 to George Washington on Tuesday night at the Smith Center.

The Hornets fall to 5-7 and remain winless (0-7) on the road, while the Colonials, who are currently receiving votes in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ poll, improve to 7-4.

Senior guard Cindy Alldrin was the only Hornet to reach double figures, scoring a team-high 10 points. Alldrin, who has led the team in scoring on six occasions this year, knocked down two three-pointers, grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists.

George Washington had three players finish in double figures, led by Jessica Adair’s 11 points and seven rebounds. Jessica Simmonds added 11 points and Sarah-Jo Lawrence added 10 points while picking up three steals. Guard Kimberly Beck dished out a game-high eight assists in addition to her seven points and five rebounds.

Senior forward Ashley Cadotte led Sacramento State with seven rebounds and three steals, while senior center Katelyn Ciampi finished with nine points on 4-of-6 shooting and four rebounds. Junior guard Kim Sheehy extended her three-point streak to 18 games, sinking her 32nd trey of the year.

The Hornets’ offense struggled, shooting a season-low 27.8 percent from the floor and turning the ball over on 20 occasions. Sacramento State also launched a season-high 27 attempts from behind the three-point line, but connected on just six, for a .222 three-point field goal percentage.

Sacramento State had the early advantage, taking a 5-0 lead on a Cherry three-pointer and extending that lead to 10-4 at the 13:22 mark after Cadotte hit her first bucket of the game.

The Colonials went on a 10-5 run to take their first lead of the game, 15-14, at the 6:09 mark of the first half, but Sacramento State responded with buckets from Alldrin and Ciampi to go into halftime tied at 19-19.

The Hornets’ final lead of the second half, 23-22, came at the 18:13 mark as George Washington responded with a 8-0 run in the following four minutes. The Colonials, with a 38-34 lead at the 10:51 mark, then held the Sacramento State scoreless going on a 16-0 run and taking a 54-34 lead with 6:37 remaining.

Sacramento State will now have an eight-day layoff before opening up Big Sky play at the Hornets Nest against Idaho State on Jan. 12. The Hornets will enter the game with an undefeated record of 5-0 at home.
