Sacramento State dropped its season opener against Wyoming, 47-35, at Arena Auditorium on Saturday afternoon.In a low-scoring game, senior Ashley Cadotte was the only player to finish in double figures, with a game-high 10 points, two rebounds and two steals.
In game-high 38 minutes on the floor, junior guard Kim Sheehy added nine points and three steals.
The teams combined for 47 turnovers with Wyoming collecting 16 steals and the Hornets were credited with 10.
Sacramento State got off to a slow start. After junior guard Stephanie Cherry initially gave the Hornets a 3-0 lead, Sacramento State went over six minutes before scoring their second bucket, trailing 10-6 with 12:13 remaining in the first half.
With both teams struggling to score, the Cowgirls had a 22-10 lead at the half.
In the second half the Hornets and Cowgirls played evenly, each scoring 25 points, but Sacramento State’s 12-point first half deficit was too large to overcome.
Erin Hicks led Wyoming with nine points and seven rebounds, while Hanna Zavecz also contributed nine points.
