REAMS SCORES 14 AS WOMEN’S HOOPS DEFEATS WILLIAM JESSUP 86-48

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State won its second exhibition game of the season, defeating William Jessup 86-48 at the Hornets Nest on Tuesday night.

Becca Reams, a 2004 graduate of Placer HS who redshirted last season, led the team with 14 points, making just her second appearance in a Hornet uniform. The Foresthill, Calif., native went 5-for-12 from the floor and fell just short of a double-double with a game-high nine rebounds.

Also scoring in double figures was junior guard Kim Sheehy with 13 points and senior center Katelyn Ciampi, who added 12 points, six rebounds and two assists. Senior forward Lindsey Heard knocked down two three-pointer in an 11-point effort and the Roseburg, Ore., native also added seven rebounds.

Sacramento State got off to a slow start, with William Jessup taking a 13-7 lead on a three-pointer from Danae Tate with 13:52 left in the first half. Tate led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 4-of-5 from behind the arc.

The Hornets quickly regrouped and went on a 23-3 run , taking a 30-16 lead with 7:23 remaining. Ciampi added four points before the half ended with Sacramento State taking an 18-point lead, 44-26.

The Hornets continued to pile on the pressure, forcing 27 turnovers (13 in the second half) and picking up 19 steals, led by Stephanie Cherry and Cindy Alldrin, who collected five and four, respectively.

Sacramento State also outrebounded the Warriors 52-29, while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the free throw line.

Taylor Lumas finished with 11 points for William Jessup.

Sacramento State plays its season opener at Wyoming on Saturday, Nov. 19, before traveling to play Boise State on Monday, Nov. 21. The Hornets then return for their home opener against Southern Utah on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2:05 p.m.
