SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Three players scored in double figures, led by junior guard Kim Sheehy’s game-high 18 points, during Sacramento State’s 88-39 victory over Bethany in Friday night’s exhibition at the Hornets Nest.Sheehy, who shot 7-of-11 from the floor, also added two assists and two steals. Senior forward Ashley Cadotte added 12 points with eight rebounds and four steals while senior guard Cindy Alldrin shot 4-of-6 from the floor for 11 points, four assists and two steals.
It was the first time the Hornets have returned to the floor after posting an 8-20 season just a year ago, while Atty Boyer, Ashley Storms and Becca Reams made their debuts. Reams, who redshirted last season after graduating from Placer HS in 2004, scored nine points and added six rebounds, while Boyer, a 2005 El Camino graduate, finished with eight points and three steals.
Junior guard Stephanie Cherry dished out a game-high eight assists to go with her five points while senior forward Lindsey Heard brought down a game-high 12 rebounds.
Sacramento State jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and took its largest lead of the first half, 36-7, with 4:12 remaining.
In the final five minutes of the fist half, Bethany went on a 12-4 run to end the first period with the Hornets leading 40-19. In the second half, Sacramento State extended its lead to 51 points, 84-33, at the 3:15 mark.
The Hornets shot 39 percent from the floor (16-of-41) and also outrebounded Bethany 44-33, while forcing the Bruins into 40 turnovers.
Sacramento State will play the second of its two exhibition games at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, hosting William Jessup at the Hornets Nest. The Hornets officially open their season at Wyoming on Saturday, Nov. 19.
