The 14th-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders defeated Sacramento State 83-37 Tuesday night at United Spirit Arena.The Hornets fall to 3-6 on the season, while Texas Tech improves to 8-2 on the season and continues its undefeated streak at home.
The Lady Raiders had four players finish in double figures, led by Cisti Greenwalt’s game-high 19 points. Chelsey Dabbs added 15 points, Judith Smith finished with 12 and LaToya Davis added 10 points along with a game-high eight rebounds.
Sacramento State was led by senior guard Tyeisha Brown, who scored a team-high eight points. It was the fifth time this season that Brown has led the team in scoring.
Brown also led the team in rebounding with five, while adding a team-high three steals, two assists and two blocks.
Junior guard Cindy Alldrin added seven points and sophomore guard Stephanie Cherry finished with five.
Sacramento State came up with a game-high 14 steals and forced Texas Tech into 18 turnovers, but the Hornets were outrebounded 57-32.
The Lady Raiders shot 49 percent from the floor, while the Hornets shot a season-low 21 percent.
United Spirit Arena was filled almost to capacity with Sacramento State playing in front of its biggest crowd of the season, 14,119.
The Hornets shot a season-best 87 percent from the free throw line, while the Lady Raiders struggled from the stripe, shooting just 53 percent (10-of-19).
Sacramento State was down 45-20 at the end of the first half paced by junior guard Cindy Alldrin and Brown, who scored five and four points, respectively.
Despite the Hornets coming up with four steals in the first four minutes of the second half, the Lady Raiders went on a 17-3 run before a 10-foot jumper on the baseline from junior forward Katelyn Ciampi broke Sacramento State’s scoring drought.
In the first 10 minutes of the game, Sacramento State nailed three three-pointers with Lindsey Heard, Stephanie Cherry and Ashley Cadotte connecting from behind the arc.
Sacramento State returns to the court at the Hornets Nest on Friday, Dec. 31 at 1:05 p.m. against New Mexico State.
Notes: Freshman forward Ashley Jackson saw her first action of the season in the second half, scoring her first career bucket in less than one minute on the floor...senior center Kristine Knowlton played a season-high 13 minutes.
