LATE RALLY NOT ENOUGH FOR WOMEN'S HOOPS IN 60-50 LOSS TO UTPA

MANHATTAN, Kansas --- Sophomore Sarah Craig''s season-high 19 points helped lead a second-half charge by the Hornets but Texas-Pan American prevailed with a 60-50 win over the Sacramento State women''s basketball team, Saturday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum. The contest was the consolation game of the Commerce Bank Wildcat Classic.

Sacramento State is now 0-7 on the year while Texas-Pan American improved to 5-1.

Craig led the Hornets in scoring after finishing 8-of-14 from the field (including her first three-point basket of the season) and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Craig''s point total is the highest by a Hornet this season and marked the second time she has led the team in scoring. Sophomore Katelyn Ciampi added 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field (2-for-2 from the charity stripe), a career-best four steals and two blocks. Freshman Jessica Voisard also added a game-high 10 rebounds.

Molly Schamel led the Lady Broncs with a game-high 20 points after finishing 9-of-15 from the floor. Ashley Roberts (11 points) and Amanda Carlow (seven assists) also contributed to the squad.

In the first half, both teams exchanged leads until Texas-Pan American used a 12-6 run to go up 18-12 at the 6:34 mark. The Lady Broncs led by as many as eight points before leaving the floor with a 27-21 advantage. Schamel led Texas-Pan American with 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Ciampi finished with six first half-points to lead the Hornets.

In the second frame, the Hornets slowly chipped away at the Lady Broncs advantage and took a 41-39 lead at the 8:40 mark after a lay-up by Craig. Texas-Pan American regained control by holding Sacramento State scoreless for the next 6:13, en route to an 10-2 run (49-43). The Lady Broncs increased their lead to as many as 11 (54-43) at the 1:03 mark to put the game out of reach.

The Hornets will next host San Jose State on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 7:05 p.m. at the Hornets Nest.
