WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT NORTHERN COLORADO 1/20/2011 Mallorie Franco had a team-high nine rebounds but the Hornets lost 91-59 to Northern Colorado. GREELEY, Colo. - The Sacramento State women's basketball team fell 91-59 to Northern Colorado in a Big Sky Conference match-up on Thursday night in Butler-Hancock Arena. The Hornets slide to 3-15 (0-5 Big Sky) with the loss while the second-place Bears improve to 9-9 (4-1). Sacramento State led 8-4 just 1:31 into the game behind 3-point baskets from Jasmine Cannady and Tika Koshiyama-Diaz but Northern Colorado would rattle off a 14-0 run over the next 4:31 to take an 18-8 lead with 13:50 remaining in the opening half. The Hornets would cut the UNC lead down to four points at 10:40 but the Bears would put together another big run, closing out the first 20 minutes of the game on a 33-11 sprint to take a commanding 51-25 lead at halftime. Northern Colorado shot 51.3-percent in the first half compared to just 25.8-percent by the Hornets, despite Sacramento State hitting 6-of-13 3-point baskets. It was more of the same in the second half, as Northern Colorado led by as much as 37 points after halftime before winning by 32, 91-59. Sacramento State was paced by Kylie Kuhns on offense, as she scored a team-high 14 points. Kuhns, the nation's No. 4 rebounder at 12.1 per game, grabbed just four boards against UNC as the Bears outrebounded the Hornets 49-31 in the game. Koshiyama-Diaz chipped in nine points and Sami Field-Polisso scored eight while Mallorie Franco grabbed a team-best nine rebounds. Northern Colorado's starting five each scored in double figures with Kaisha Brown scoring a game-high 19 points. The Bears had six players grab five or more rebounds with Jayne Strand's eight leading the way. Sacramento State shot 31.3-percent from the floor on 20-of-64 shooting, including 9-of-26 from 3-point range. The Hornets snagged 31 rebounds, committed 16 turnovers and had11  assists on their 20 made baskets. They went 10-of-19 at the free throw line. Northern Colorado shot 54.1-percent overall on 33-of-61 shooting, with 8-of-17 coming from beyond the arc. The Bears grabbed 49 rebounds, were pressured into 15 turnovers and had 16 assists on 33 made hoops. They went 17-of-24 at the free throw line. The Hornets will stay on the road this weekend, with a game at 7:05 p.m. against Eastern Washington on Saturday in Cheney, Wash.
