CHARDAY HUNT NAMED SECOND TEAM ALL-BIG SKY

3/10/2009

OGDEN, Utah - Sacramento State junior forward Charday Hunt (Portland, Ore.) was named second team all-Big Sky Conference, as announced today.

Hunt ranks fourth in the Big Sky in scoring, averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game. The junior also ranks in the top five in the conference in free throw percentage (81.2 percent) and three-point field percentage (38.9 percent), while ranking in the top 15 in three-point field goals made (1.52 per game), minutes played (32.4 per game) and steals (1.24 per game).

She increased her scoring average during conference play to 15.2 points per game, while ranking second in the Big Sky in three-point shooting during conference play, hitting three's at a 44.3 percent clip. She has reached double figures in 12 of the Hornets 16 games against conference competition so far.

For Hunt, the award marks her first career Big Sky Conference honor, and she becomes the first player in Hornet history to be named to the second team, as the Hornets previous 11 conference honors were at the first team or honorable mention levels.

Montana’s Mandy Morales became just the fifth player in Big Sky history to earn first-team accolades all four years of her career, and she was also named conference MVP for the second time in her career. She was joined as unanimous first team selections by Portland State's Claire Faucher and Kelsey Kahle. Montana State's Erica Perry, Montana's Sonya Rogers and Idaho State's Michelle Grohs rounded out the first team selections.

Kahle was also tabbed as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, while Sarah Conner of Weber State earned Top Newcomers honors, and Montana State's Katie Bussey took home the league's Outstanding Freshman award.

"The pool of quality talent in the Big Sky this year is as deep as I've seen it during my time in the league," sixth year head coach Dan Muscatell said. "I believe Charday is deserving to be in the company of the other fine players that earned all-conference honors. I am sure she shares this honor with all of her teammates."

The Hornets open up Big Sky Tournament play in Missoula, Mont. on Thursday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. Pacific time against Idaho State.
