WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES ITS TWO SIGNEES FOR THE 2008-09 CLASS
11/15/2007
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State women’s basketball head coach Dan Muscatell, announced the signing of two student-athletes for the 2007-08 campaign today.
High school products Karri Gallagher and Nneka Payne, both from the state of Washington, will make up the incoming class for next season.
Gallagher, a 6-foot-3 post player from Lake Stevens HS in Lake Stevens, Wash., has played four years of basketball for head coach Randy Edens at the center position for the Vikings. A season ago, Gallagher averaged 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while blocking 2.0 shots per contest. She was a second team all-4A WesCo North Division honoree during her junior season, which included a 23 point, 12 rebound effort vs. Stanwood HS.
“Karri is a package we haven’t had for a few years here,” Muscatell said. “At 6-foot-3, she runs the floor well and has good hands. With her frame, and her naturally abilities, she’ll be a solid post player in the Big Sky Conference.”
Payne, a 5-foot-6 combo guard from Auburn HS in Auburn, Wash., has played three years of varsity basketball for head coach Ed Bender. Prior to attending Auburn HS, Payne spent a year at Auburn Riverside HS. Last season, Payne averaged 14.0 points and 3.1 assists per game, and was named first team all-South Puget Sound League. Her best outing during her junior season took place against Bonney Lake HS, where she scored 24 points.
“Nneka will be a real asset to us with our current group of guards,” Muscatell said. “She is exceptionally ‘basketball quick’ and is the type of player who makes everyone around her better, with her ability to create for others and for herself.”
The Hornets, who are 0-1 on the season, travel on the road this week, to face 2007 NCAA Tournament participants Drake (Nov. 16) and Iowa State (Nov. 18).
