SHEEHY NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON
3/5/2007
OGDEN, Utah. - Sacramento State senior guard Kim Sheehy received all-Big Sky honorable mention accolades, it was announced today by the league office.
It is the third consecutive year Sheehy has earned all-Big Sky honors, after being named honorable mention in 2005-06, and first team all-league as well as co-Big Sky Newcomer of the Year following 2004-05.
Sheehy spent three years with Sacramento State after transferring from San Jose State, and established herself as one of the best outside shooters in the conference and in the history of the program.
Playing in all of the Hornets’ 84 games the last three seasons, Sheehy missed only one start on her way to the record books. She waited until the last possible opportunity, to break the all-time record, knocking down back-to-back three-pointers in the season finale at Idaho State last Saturday to take the title.
Her 176 career three-pointers surpassed the previous record holder, Michelle St. Clair (175). In addition, Sheehy’s career total of 876 points is the 10th best mark in school history.
This past season, Sheehy set a new career high averaging 11.6 points per game, and despite not playing the point, her 84 assists also set a personal career-best and tied for the team lead.
She was one of three players on the Hornets’ roster to record a double-double this season with a 16-point, 10 assist performance against Saint Mary’s on Dec. 28. She was also one of only six players in the conference, and the only Sacramento State player to record double figures in assists during a single game this season.
Over her career, Sheehy averaged 10.4 points while, playing 32.5 minutes per game. In her three seasons, she also knocked down 307 field goals, the 11th best mark in program history.
Montana’s sophomore point guard Many Morales was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. She earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors six times, making her the first player in conference history to do so. In January, she was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” for being named the conference’s Player of the Week five weeks in a row.
Morales has led the Lady Griz to a 27-2 overall and 15-1 conference record, including a 25th ranking in the Associated Press top 25 poll, while averaging 20.1 points and 6.8 assists per game.
