5/27/2003

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s basketball program announced today that Casa Roble High School’s Ashley Jackson has signed a National Letter of Intent and will enroll as a freshman at Sacramento State in the fall of 2003.

Jackson, a 6-2 native of Citrus Heights, Calif., has spent the past four years at Orangevale’s Casa Roble High School. Jackson was the Rams’ starting varsity center during both her junior and senior seasons while averaging 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game this past year. As a junior against Placer High School, she posted 21 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.

She was the recipient of numerous team awards including most inspirational as a junior (2001-02) and the coach’s award as a senior (2002-03).

“Ashley has great size and athleticism,” head coach Dan Muscatell said. “She is a very mobile player who will help us tremendously with our depth in the post area and she can rebound on both ends of the floor.

“She is also a local product which demonstrates our commitment to recruiting the local athlete.”

Jackson is the first signee for the newly-appointed Muscatell. Overall, she is the third Sacramento State signee of the year, joining Stephanie Cherry (Fairfield High School) and Jessica Voisard (Capistrano Valley High School).
