CAROLYN JENKINS WILL NOT RETURN FOR 2003-04 SEASON

3/10/2003

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State Director of Athletics Terry Wanless announced today that head women’s basketball coach Carolyn Jenkins will not return next season. Jenkins’ three-year deal, which expired at the end of the season, will not be renewed, Wanless said.

“I appreciate the effort and hard work Carolyn has put into the program,” Wanless said. “Unfortunately, the results we anticipated have not been met, and we have decided to go in a different direction.

“On a personal note, I wish Carolyn the best of luck and would like to thank her for her dedication to the program.”

In three years as Sacramento State’s head coach, Jenkins recorded a 6-74 overall record and a 2-42 Big Sky

Conference mark. This past year, the team finished with a 3-24 overall mark and a 1-13 record in the Big Sky.

“I would like to thank the University for giving me my first head coaching position,” Jenkins said. “On behalf of myself and my staff, hopefully we have put the program on track for future success.”

The search for a new women’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
