WOMEN’S BASKETBALL INKS CANADIANS SARAH CRAIG AND MEGAN MOON

5/13/2002

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s basketball program announced that a pair of student-athletes, Sarah Craig and Megan Moon, have signed National Letters of Intent and will enroll at Sacramento State as freshmen in the fall of 2002.

Moon, a 5-9 point guard from Kamloops, British Columbia, led Kamloops Secondary High School to a third-place finish at the AA Provinicial Championships this past season. She received all-tournament honors at the championships after averaging 19 points, seven rebounds and eight assists per game. During the 2001-02 season, she compiled 15.3 points and 5.0 assists per game, and was named a West Zone first team All-Star as a junior.

“Megan has exceptional ball-handling skills and great instincts for the game,” Sacramento State head coach Carolyn Jenkins said. “She’s a good athlete who will get it done on both ends of the floor. She can defend anyone on the perimeter, and offensively, she can shoot from the outside or penetrate.

“Everything you could possibly want at the point guard position, she’ll bring us.”

Craig, a 5-11 shooting guard/small forward from Calgary, Alberta, starred at Calgary’s Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School the past three seasons. Craig was named the conference player of the year after leading the Lancers to a 27-3 record and a 4A Provincial championship. In the Provincial championship game, she finished with 18 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and six steals. A two-time provincial high jump champion, Craig was also named the MVP of the Alberta Shooting Stars All-Star game.

“Sarah has exceptional movement without the basketball and gets up and down the floor extremely well,” Jenkins said. “She rebounds well at her position, has a good mid-range game, and is the type of player that gives 100 percent all the time.”

Craig and Moon mark the third and fourth Sacramento State signees of the year, joining Katelyn Ciampi (Alhambra High School) and Diane Peterson (College of Marin).
