SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s basketball program announced today that Diane Peterson has signed a National Letter of Intent and will enroll as a junior at Sacramento State in the fall of 2002.Peterson, a 5-8 shooting guard from San Rafael, Calif., led the College of Marin to the junior college state championships last season. As a sophomore, Peterson received first team all-Bay Valley Conference and third team all-state honors after averaging 15 points and five rebounds per game. In addition, the team captain averaged four three-pointers per contest and ranked second in the state after shooting 45.0 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
Against Santa Rosa Junior College last season, Peterson broke the school record and tied the state record with nine three-pointers. She also knocked down eight three-pointers in two other games that season.
“Diane fills a great need that we have in terms of perimeter shooting,” Sacramento State head coach Carolyn Jenkins said. “She was one of the top shooters in the state last year and she is a key acquisition. She’ll help us extend the defense and we’re extremely happy to have her at Sacramento State.”
Peterson marks the second Sacramento State signee of the year, joining Katelyn Ciampi who was inked during the early signing period.
