Winter All-Academic
Women's basketball earned seven Big Sky all-academic selections.

OGDEN, Utah - The Big Sky Conference has announced the members of the 2011-12 Winter All-Academic teams and the Sacramento State women's basketball team garnered seven honors.

“We are very proud of our players for what they have accomplished in the classroom," said head coach Jamie Craighead. "It shows how much we care about being student-athletes and having our players do their very best on and off the court. They represent our university and the women’s basketball program with respect and pride. It is a privilege to work with these young ladies.”

The women's basketball team's seven selections was the second most in the conference and the most of any winter sport at Sacramento State. Emily Christensen, the lone senior on the roster, earned her fourth selection to the team while the other six picks were also all-academic choices last season. Under three years with Craighead at the helm, the Hornets have earned 18 total Big Sky all-academic honors.

To be eligible for the league's all-academic teams, a student-athlete must hold a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, played in at least half of their team's games and already finished one academic term at their current Big Sky university.

In addition to its classroom success, the women's basketball team shined on the hardwood as well this season. Sacramento State advanced to the Big Sky Conference Tournament for the fifth time in school history and upset No. 3 seeded Eastern Washington in the quarterfinals for the first tournament win since joining the Big Sky. The Hornets return 13 players off last season's team, including four starters.
