HERNANDEZ AND SCHUR EACH SET SCHOOL RECORDS AT NEW MEXICO CLASSIC

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Sam Schur and Emilio Hernandez each set Sacramento State school records and the Hornets set 39 Big Sky Conference qualifying marks at the New Mexico Classic on Saturday.

Schur scored 5,130 points to place third in the heptathlon and shatter the school record. His total bettered the previous mark of 5,062 set by Robert Brazier in 2008 and moved him into third place in the Big Sky this season.

Hernandez cleared 6-10.25 to finish third in the high jump and record the second best mark by a collegiate athlete. The junior now leads the Big Sky and bettered Rokeem Osby's previous school record of 6-08.75. Hernandez also met the Big Sky standard in the triple jump with a distance of 45-04.25.

Other notables for the men's team included A.J. Reed who ran 6.86 in the 60-meter dash final. That time is the fastest in the Big Sky this year and moves Reed into a tie for third place in school history.

For the second straight week, Ronald Brookins and Reed dominated the 60-hurdles. Brookins ran 8.03 in the final to win the event while Brookins was second in 8.04 seconds.

In the throws, Taylor Weldon PRed in the weight throw with a toss of 54-07.50 which moved him into fifth place at Sacramento State.

The Hornet women had five student-athletes meet the Big Sky standard in both the 60-hurdles and the triple jump. Sakya Bolton ran 8.79 in the prelims for the fastest 60-hurdles time and Naima Goodwin jumped 38-11.75 to lead the way in the TJ.

Ericka Viollett and Lizzy Norvell each cleared a Big Sky leading 12-07.50 in the pole vault. Norvell's mark was an indoor PR and moved her into sole possession of second place in the school's record book.

Ify Agwuenu, who already owns the school shot put record, jumped to second place in the weight throw with a toss of 56-09.25. Andi Behring also set a personal best in the shot put at 45-06.25 which ranks fourth.

Lea Wallace and Renisha Robinson qualified in the 400. The pair ran 57.07 and 57.28, respectively, and are now ranked fifth and sixth in Sacramento State history. The pair also own the top two 800 times in the Big Sky.

Sacramento State returns to Seattle for the Husky Classic on Feb. 13.
