BROOKINS AND WALLACE NAMED BIG SKY TRACK ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
4/8/2009
OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State's Ronald Brookins and Lea Wallace were both named Big Sky Conference track athletes of the week for the week ending, April 5.
Brookins earned his first award of the outdoor season after running 13.92 seconds in the 110-hurdles at last weekend's Mondo Invitational at Hornet Stadium. The San Diego native's time was the fastest by a collegiate athlete in the meet. Brookins also bettered his own Big Sky leading time, met the NCAA regional standard and moved into second place in school history. He also won the long jump in the meet with a mark of 24-04.25 which also leads the Big Sky.
Wallace received her first career Big Sky award. A sophomore from Napa, Calif., Wallace ran 4:28.87 in the 1,500 at the Mondo Invitational. Wallace now leads the conference in the event and also has the fastest time in the Big Sky in the 800 as she ran 2:07.22 at the Cal-Nevada Championships.
The pair are the fourth and fifth Hornets to be honored by the league since March 31. Kristina Holtz and David Rabinowitz each were named Track Athletes of the Week on March 24 and Ify Agwuenu was the Field Athlete of the Week on March 31.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Woody Wilson Classic at UC Davis on April 11.
