TRACK & FIELDS CLOSES REGULAR SEASON AT LAST CHANCE MEET

3/7/2009

SEATTLE — Three members of the Sacramento State track and field team closed out their regular seasons at the UW Last Chance Meet on Saturday. The group, which was comprised of junior Ericka Violett and sophomores Renisha Robinson and Ronald Brookins, each placed in the top three during the day.

Robinson came within a fraction of a second of breaking her own school record in the 800. The San Jose, Calif., native ran 2:08.79 on Saturday to meet the NCAA provisional standard. Her time was the best of the day at the meet and was just off the pace of her time of 2:08.64 which came last week in the Big Sky Championships at Northern Arizona.

Violett finished first in the long jump with a mark of 19-04.75. While the distance was strong enough to win the meet, it did not improve on her best of 20-00.25.

Brookins was second in the long jump and third in the 60-hurdles. The San Diego native long jumped 23-11.50 and ran 8.00 in the finals of the 60-hurdles.

All three student athletes will now wait to find out if they qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Each has met the NCAA provisional mark during the course of the year but have not garnered automatic entrance to the competition which will be hosted by Texas A&M.
