Since 2007, Sacramento State has become the most successful track and field program in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets have won 19 conference titles during that span including sweeping all four team titles in 2011. The streak began when the men’s team stunned the rest of the Big Sky at the 2007 indoor championships. The team proved its title was not a fluke by repeating in 2008 and was joined atop the awards stand by the women’s team which claimed its first crown. In the spring of 2008, the Hornet women grabbed the first Big Sky outdoor title in school history while the men finished second.
In 2009, the women claimed their second consecutive outdoor title and just missed out on winning indoors, finishing second.
The women continued their domination in 2010, sweeping both the indoor and outdoor championships. The Hornets finished 76.5 points ahead of the nearest team at the indoor championships and was 36 points better than the closest competition at the outdoor meet.
In 2011, Sacramento State became just the third school in Big Sky history to win all four team titles in the same season. The indoor championships came in different ways as the women cruised to a 50 point victory and the men narrowly defeated host Idaho State by a half point.
The Hornets hosted the outdoor championships and took advantage of the friendly environment to run away with both titles. The women became the first school in Big Sky history to win four consecutive outdoor titles.
The women had their streak snapped with a narrow loss at the indoor championships but returned to the top of the league by winning their fifth straight outdoor title in 2012. The team returned to the top of the podium in 2013 as the women finished first at the indoor and outdoor championships. The outdoor title stretched their streat to an unprecedented six straight.

The Hornets won three of the four Big Sky titles in 2015, including a sweep at the outdoor championships. The team added the women's indoor title in 2016 and the men won the outdoor crown at Hornet Stadium in 2017.
