TRACK & FIELD ADVANCES EIGHT STUDENT-ATHLETES IN TEN EVENTS TO NCAA WEST PRELIMINARY

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Eight members of the Sacramento State track and field team will compete in 10 events at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary, it was announced today. The meet will take place at Hornet Stadium on May 23-25. Each individual event will have 48 competitors, relays will have 24 teams, with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.

Shilah Bedingfield and Brittany Patterson will each take part in two events over the three days. Bedingfield will run in the 100 and 200 while Patterson punched her ticket in the long jump and triple jump. Bedingfield, who was the Big Sky champion in the 200 and 400, is seeded 15th in the 200 with a time of 23.12. She is also 34th in the 100 with a best of 11.58. This year marks the second consecutive season that the sophomore has qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary. Last season, she competed in the 200 and 400 at the meet.

Patterson most recently claimed the title in the women's triple jump at the Big Sky Championships. The sophomore is seeded 35th in the event at the West Preliminary with a long of 41-06.50 (12.66m). She also ranks 46th in the long jump at 20-00.50 (6.11m).

The women's team will have two others join Bedingfield in the running events. Cassidy Zurn is ranked 29th in the 400-hurdles and Amy Quinones is 40th in the 1500. Zurn finished second in the 400-hurdles at the Big Sky Championships with a career best of 59.27. Quinones was eighth in both the 800 and 1500 to score points at the conference meet. Her fastest 1500 during the year was 4:23.99 at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

In the field events, Jade Cany and Jelaia Jones will compete in the high jump and shot put, respectively. Cany set a career high of 5-08.50 to finish fourth at the Big Sky meet and will be seeded 45th. Jones claimed the final berth in the women's shot put with her mark of 49-11.25 from the Mondo Team Challenge. This year, she finished first in five meets including the Big Sky meet. Shelby Dozier was added to the high jump field on May 20. Dozier has a season best of 5-08.00 at the Mondo Team Challenge.

Kyle Peterson returns to the NCAA West Preliminary for the second consecutive season. Peterson is seeded 43rd in the discus with a best of 178-05 at the UC Riverside Spring Classic.
