LONG BEACH, Calif. — Five Sacramento State throwers competed at the Beach Invitational in the shot put and discus on Saturday at Long Beach State. The quintet completed a busy weekend for the Hornets which saw members of the team also compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday and Friday as well as the hammer throw at the Beach Invitational on Friday.
Kyle Peterson was the lone male to compete for Sacramento State on Saturday. Peterson placed 35th in the discus with a best of 164-08 and was 53rd in the shot put at 48-09.00.
Senior Jelaia Jones had the highest finish among the Hornet women, placing 17th with a best of 48-03.50 in the shot put. Jones was 75th in the discus at 129-09. Shantel Nnaji had the longest discus throw on the team (145-02) to place 46th. She also set a career best in the shot put at 41-07.00.
In the shot put, Morgan Jones was 29th at 45-08.00 and Rhaven Dean was 39th at 43-07.75.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Causeway Classic Dual Meet on Friday, April 26, at UC Davis. The team will then head to Missoula, Mont., for the Big Sky Championships on May 8-11.
