TRACK & FIELD SETS THREE SCHOOL TOP 10 MARKS AT PAIR OF SOCAL MEETS

WALNUT and AZUSA, Calif. — Sacramento State track and field athletes started a busy weekend in Southern California by competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays on Friday. The Hornets split their attention between the two meets over the last two days but will reunite for the Beach Invitational on Saturday at Long Beach State.

WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

Carly Schulz finished in first place at the Mt. SAC Invitational in the 400-hurdles open race. Schulz ran a career best 58.76 which was the second fastest in the Big Sky this season. She also now ranks third in Sacramento State history trailing Natalie Day's school record of 58.24 in 1985 and Stephanie Blumm who ran 58.72 in 2016.

• At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Gracie Albano posted a time of 10:54.92 in the steeplechase. That time placed her fourth the Hornet record book and was nearly 13 seconds faster than her previous best which came in 2016.

Sara Stevens set a PR in the 800 with a time of 2:15.78.

MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

• The men's 4x400 relay placed fourth in the open division at the Mt. SAC Relays in 3:16.42.

• The Hornet men set three personal bests at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Aidan Schraer ran 9:19.31 in the steeplechase to take over 16 seconds off his previous best. Tristen Thomson and Tre Lockwood each had their career bests in the 1500. Thomson finished in eighth place at the meet in 3:58.34. Lockwood ran 3:59.59.

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

Brittany Patterson finished in third place in the triple jump at the Bryan Clay. She had a best of 40-00.50 and surpassed 40-feet for the second time this outdoor season. Emilia Del Hoyo (38-02.25), Tia Cooke (38-02.00) and Lauren Wong (36-07.75) all set PRs in the event.

Danielle Brandon tied for third place in the pole vault at Mt. SAC. Brandon cleared 12-03.50.

Jelaia Jones was fourth in the shot put at Mt. SAC. Jones led a trio of Hornets in the event with a best of 46-07.50.

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

Kyle Peterson was the winner of the open discus at Mt. SAC. Peterson threw a career best 178-06 which moved him into third place in school history trailing only Dave McKenzie's throw of 181-01 in 1971 and James Kinloch's mark of 179-10 in 2016. Peterson is also second in the Big Sky this season.

• The trio of Darius Armstead, Jah Strange and Mohamed Abdullah finished seventh, eighth and ninth in the triple jump. Armstead led the way at 51-00.25 which was his best jump of the year. Strange finished at 50-07.50 and has gone over 50 feet in all three of his meets this year. Abdullah had a best of 49-11.25.

• Freshman Jevin Kitchen cleared a career best 6-07.00 in the high jump.

• The team had two other PRs in the long jump from Adrienne Jackson (21-11.00) and Jabari Reynolds (21-02.00).
