SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After producing the top marks in the Big Sky this season in their events, Denise Reis and Jah Strange were both named Big Sky Conference Athletes of the Week. Reis was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week while Strange was the Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Reis, a senior from Livingston, Calif. posted the fastest 800m time in the Big Sky this season, running 2:10.52 at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational on Saturday. The senior's time places her four seconds ahead of the next best time in the league. Reis had the third-fastest time among Div. I student-athletes in the meet, trailing only a pair of runners from California by less than a half second.
Strange, a sophomore from Indio, Calif., produced a Big Sky outdoor leading triple jump of 15.32m (50-3.50) with his performance at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational. That distance was the best by a collegiate athlete in the meet and placed him second overall. Strange leads a trio of Hornets atop the Big Sky leaderboard in the event. Strange recently won the gold medal in the triple jump at the 2018 Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Sacramento State will compete at the UC Riverside Spring Classic on Friday and Saturday this week. The team returns to Hornet Stadium for the Mondo Team Challenge on Saturday, March 31.
