TRACK & FIELD ADDS THREE MORE SCHOOL TOP 10 MARKS AT HUSKY CLASSIC

SEATTLE — A day after setting two top five marks in school history, three Sacramento State athletes moved into the top 10 with their performances during the final day of the Husky Classic. Along with the three top 10 marks, the Hornets also set eight careers bests on Saturday.

Sacramento State will remain in Seattle for the UW Open on Sunday. The meet will be the final tuneup for the team before the Big Sky Indoor Championships in two weeks.

MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

Elijah Changco moved into third place in Hornet history with his effort in the 3K. Changco ran 8:26.68 which shaved over 16 seconds off of his previous best. Changco's time is fastest by a Hornet since Reesey Byers and Chris Romo posted the two best times in school history at the Husky Classic in 2012.

Three newcomers set their career bests in the 800. Tristen Thomson led the trio in 1:57.43 for a two second improvement. Tre Lockwood ran 1:57.80 and Shane Marshall had a time of 1:59.00.

Andre Lindsey advanced to the finals of the 60 and the 60-hurdles. Lindsey was fifth in the hurdles after running 8.20 in the finals which was a tenth of a second faster than his mark in the opening round. In the 60, Lindsey ran 7.04 to start the day and 7.00 in the finals to place eighth.

WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

Amy Quinones ran the ninth fastest mile in the program's indoor history. Quinones had a time of 4:59.38 which destroyed her previous best of 5:05.11.

Freshmen Shilah Bedingfield, Sara Stevens and Megan Auernig had career bests in their events. Bedingfield ran 7.88 in the 60 for the team's best time in the 60. Stevens and Auernig each competed in the 800 and had marks of 2:19.42 and 2:22.47, respectively.

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

Cory Barger placed fifth in the long jump for the highest finish on the team in a field event. Barger jumped 23-03.50.

Jevin Kitchen led the team for the second consecutive week in the high jump. Kitchen cleared 6-03.25 to place 11th.

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

Shelby Dozier moved from a tie for ninth place into sixth in the high jump. Dozier was successful at 5-06.50 for a 1.25 inch improvement.

Emilia Del Hoyo was seventh in the long jump with a season best of 18-02.50

Danielle Brandon tied for eighth place in the pole vault after clearing 12-07.25.

Kathleen Durand set a career best in the weight throw with a toss of 51-05.00. Prior to today, Durand owned a best of 49-10.00 set last season.
