TRACK & FIELD FALLS IN CAUSEWAY CLASSIC DUAL MEET

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's track and field team won eight events and the men claimed six victories but both teams came up short at the Causeway Classic Dual Meet on Friday night at Hornet Stadium.

UC Davis claimed the men's title, outscoring the Hornets 105-87. The women's title race was tied 92-92 heading to the 4x400 relay (the final event). The Aggies claimed a lead during the first leg and never relinquished it to secure the five points and a 97-95 win. The victory was just the second for the Aggie men in 11 meets. The women's all-time series is now even at 5-5-1.

Stephanie Blumm led the Hornet women with a pair of victories. The senior ran 13.95 in the 100-hurdles and then returned to crush the field with a time of 58.74 in the 400-hurdles.

The women also set three top 10 marks. Jelaia Jones finished first in the shot put with a career best of 45-05.00. That mark kept her 10th in school history but was 5.5 inches better than her previous best.

Tyhana Cooper was victorious in the hammer with a long of 175-06. She moved up to seventh in school history after surpassing her PR by 3-feet, 1-inch.

Sacramento State women also had wins from Chloe Berlioux in the 1500 (4:25.83), Danielle Brandon in the pole vault (12-07.50), Nirie Boglino in the long jump (18-08.50) and Nikki Pappelis in the javelin (122-04).

For the men, Jelani Brice-Moore posted the fastest time in the 100 and moved into 10th place in school history after running 10.52. That time moved him into 10th place in school history and is the third fastest by a Hornet in the last seven years.

Senior Paul Lyons led a sweep of the top four spots in the 110-hurdles. Lyons ran a wind-aided 13.92 and was followed by teammates Austin Tinsley, Casey Wheeler and Jonathon Perry. Wheeler and Perry also finished 1-2 in the men's 400-hurdles.

In the field events, senior James Kinloch was first in the discus and hammer and Richard Casas had the top mark in the shot put (54-09.50). Kinloch was first in the discus with a best of 168-11 and threw the hammer 193-03. Trevor Hubby also claimed victory in the javelin with a throw of 161-05.
