  • LYONS, WALDEN MOVE ON IN THE 110-HURDLES AT NCAA WEST PRELIMINARY

    Juniors Paul Lyons and Aric Walden each advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s 110-hurdles during the second day of the NCAA West Preliminary on Friday. Lyons earned an automatic berth after finishing second in the fourth heat with a time of 13.74. Walden earned an at-large spot with a time of 13.95.

    Caprice Powell advanced to the semifinals in the women’s 100 to lead Sacramento State during the first day of the NCAA West Preliminary Track & Field meet at the University of Texas. The day was filled with gusty winds and endured a couple of weather delays due to lightning.

    Twelve members of the Sacramento State track & field teams will compete in 16 events and the Hornets will also be represented with a relay team at the NCAA West Preliminary. The meet, which will take place in Austin, Texas, will run from May 28-30.

    The Sacramento State track and field programs closed the regular season portion of its year with the Sacramento State Open on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The team had five individual event winners during the day and also recorded a three top 10 marks.

    The Sacramento State track & field teams will host their final home meet of the 2015 season with the Sacramento State Open on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The final tuneup before the Big Sky Outdoor Championships will start at 10:30 a.m. with the men's hammer. The first running event will be the men's 5K at 11:05 a.m. The final event is slated for 3:20 p.m.

    The Sacramento State men’s track & field team finished first in 12 of the 18 events to defeat UC Davis in the annual Causeway Dual Meet on Friday night at Woody Wilson Track. The Hornets scored 108 points while the Aggies tallied 84. The UC Davis women retained the title with a 99.5-92.5 victory.

Sacramento State recorded eight top 10 finishes at the meet and also had one school top 10 mark.

    The Sacramento State men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in a pair of meets on Friday to kickstart a busy weekend of action in Southern California. The Hornets were represented at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., and also had entries at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. The team will reunite on Saturday for the Beach Invitational in Cerritos, Calif.

    Junior Eric Adorno finished first in the men’s 100 and 200 to lead seven event winners for Sacramento State at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The Hornet men finished first in the six-team competition while the women placed fourth.
