SOFTBALL’S GAME WITH 14TH-RANKED LOUISVILLE HALTED BECAUSE OF RAIN
3/17/2012
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- With Sacramento State trailing, 4-3, heading into the bottom of the fourth inning against 14th-ranked Louisville, the game was called because of rain.
The contest was part of the Capital Classic Softball Tournament, which saw three games successfully played today before the skies opened up during the fourth game between the Hornets and Cardinals.
Becuase of darkness looming, a steady rainfall, and Louisville heading back to the East Coast in the morning, the game was called and will not be made up. All stats from the game will not count.
Earlier in the day, Akron defeated Princeton (3-2), Louisville beat Akron (6-1) and Princeton beat Colorado State (5-3).
The three-day tournament, which saw Friday’s entire slate of games wiped away because of rain, will resume tomorrow with three more games. Akron and Colorado State will play at 9 a.m., followed by Akron and Sacramento State at 11 a.m., and Princeton vs. Sacramento State at 1 p.m.
In today’s game, before the rain began to fall, Louisville’s Katie Keller had been 2-for-2 with two runs, a double, a home run and three RBIs. The Hornets received RBIs from Alyssa Nakken, Kaitlyn Taylor and Kelli Frye. Emily McCormick was 2-for-2.
