WEATHER CANCELS SOFTBALL’S APPEARANCE AT THIS WEEKEND’S SANTA CLARA INVITE
2/13/2009
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Due to inclement weather expected to hit the Bay Area all weekend, each of Sacramento State’s scheduled games at the Santa Clara Softball Invitational have been cancelled.
The Hornets were scheduled to play four games at the weekend tournament, which included a pair of contests against both San Jose State and host Santa Clara. The games will not be made up later in the year.
Sacramento State (2-0) opened the season on Thursday by combining for 16 runs and 21 hits in a doubleheader sweep at Pacific. Highlighted by three home runs from senior catcher Jamie Schloredt, the Hornets won the first game, 6-2, before taking the nightcap, 10-0, in six innings.
The Hornets are not scheduled to play gain until next week’s three-day, five-game Stanford Invitational (Feb. 20-22). Sacramento State will play Notre Dame and eighth-ranked Stanford on Friday, Western Kentucky and Notre Dame on Saturday, and another game against Stanford on Sunday. Stanford is ranked, and Notre Dame is currently receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA top 25.
