RAIN FORCES THE CANCELLATION OF THIS WEEKEND’S CAPITAL CLASSIC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Due to rains that have swept through the Sacramento area since Saturday morning, the entire schedule for this weekend’s Capital Classic Softball Tournament has been cancelled. The tournament lost 13 games on Saturday and seven more on Sunday because of the rain.All 13 teams were able to play two games on Friday (the first day of the tournament), but inclement weather and unplayable fields forced the cancellation of the remaining games for each team.
Minnesota, 17th-ranked Oregon State and 25th-ranked Northwestern were crowned tri-champions of the tournament based on their 2-0 records. BYU, second-ranked Cal, 23rd-ranked Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Portland State and host Sacramento State each posted 1-1 records. Long Island, Rhode Island and Utah Valley State went 0-2.
Sacramento State (16-12) is not scheduled to play again until travelling to Nevada for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 30.
