SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Amber Dragomir, Amy Walter and Lindy Winkler each had two hits to lead Sacramento State to a 4-2 win over Utah State Saturday night at the Capital Classic. The win improved the team to 4-0 at the tournament and 15-13 overall. The Aggies fell to 1-3 at the Capital Classic and 13-17 overall.The Aggies jumped on Sacramento State starter Jennifer Fryou for two runs in the first inning. Michelle Vlahos opened the game with a walk and after an out Sara Fleming hit a two-run home run to left field.
Sacramento State tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Nicole Deatherage singled to left scoring Jess Rojo and Walter. The Hornets took the lead for good in the third on an RBI groundout from Rojo. The team added a fourth run in the fifth inning on a squeeze from Walter which scored Winkler.
Dragomir’s leadoff single in the third inning extended her career-best hitting streak to 11-straight games.
Deatherage earned the win for the Hornets after throwing 5.2 innings of scoreless relief. The senior struck out 10 during that span while not allowing a walk. Over the last 55.2 innings, Deatherage has allowed just one earned run (0.13 ERA).
The Hornets return to the diamond at 9 a.m. on Sunday against Pitt. If Sacramento State downs the Panthers, their 11 a.m. matchup against unbeaten Long Beach State will decide the champion of the Capital Classic.
