SOFTBALL DOWNS WISCONSIN, 3-0, FOR THIRD-STRAIGHT SHUTOUT

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Sacramento State remained unbeaten at the Capital Classic with a 3-0 win over Wisconsin Saturday afternoon at the Sacramento Softball Complex. The win, was the third-straight shutout for the Hornets, and lifted the team above .500 for the first time this season with a 14-13 overall record. Wisconsin dropped to 14-12.

Sacramento State starter Brianne Ferguson worked her way out of trouble in the first three innings before the Hornets were able to get on the board. The Badgers loaded the bases in the first inning and had runners on second and third base in the second and third innings but were unable to score. Wisconsin’s best chance came in the third, but their lead runner was thrown out in a rundown between third and home.

The Hornets scored the game’s first run in the third on a two-out double by Amber Dragomir which scored Lindy Winkler. The double extended Dragomir’s hit streak to a career-best 10 games.

Sacramento State added two insurance runs in the fifth inning on a double from Erin Coyne to plate Amy Walter and Lindy Winkler.

The Hornets were led by Coyne and Winkler who each recorded two hits. Coyne drove in two runs, while Winkler scored twice.

Ferguson threw her second-straight shutout and eighth complete game while improving to 6-7. The junior struck out three, walked one and allowed six hits.

The Hornets return to the diamond at 5:30 against Utah State. The team will then face Pitt and Long Beach State on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.
