With the victories, Stanford has won nine of its last 12 games while improving to 32-10 overall this season. The Cardinal have now beaten Sacramento State seven of the last eight times the two teams have met. Sacramento State dropped to 29-19 with the losses, but has still won 11 of its last 14 games.

In the first game, Sorensen (19-5) threw a five-hit shutout while recording her 1,000th-career strikeout in the process. Sorensen struck out seven batters, including the side in the first inning. The Hornets had opportunities to score, leaving nine runners on base (including at least one runner in each of the last five innings).

Allister accounted for all four runs in the contest as she finished the game 2-for-2 with one walk, one double and four RBIs. Allister had a three-run double in the first inning and an RBI-single in the third. Sacramento State starter Brianne Ferguson held Stanford to one run over the final five innings after allowing the three-run double in the opening frame.

The Hornets had their best chance to score in the third inning, loading the bases with two outs before Sorensen induced Jessica Rojo to ground out to end the inning. Freshman Amy Jo McKenzie led the Hornets with a pair of hits, including a sixth-inning double. Allister, Catalina Morris and Leah Nelson each had two hits for Stanford.

Ferguson (14-9) had won eight-straight appearances prior to taking the loss in game one. The junior right-hander also had her streak of appearances without allowing an earned run snapped at eight. She allowed Stanford four runs and nine hits while striking out six over six innings.

In the nightcap, Sacramento State starter Jennifer Fryou allowed Stanford only two runs and six hits over six innings. In just her ninth start of the season, the freshman did not allow a multiple-hit game by any Stanford player. The Cardinal scored their only two runs of the game in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk to Katherine Hoffman and a sacrifice fly from Catalina Morris.

Sacramento State had four hits in the game off Stanford starter Laura Severson, but did not get a runner past second base during the entire contest. Severson (11-5) struck out four and retired the final 10 batters of the game in succession. Each of the four Hornet hits were singles.

The Hornets’ offense had been shut out just four times this season until being blanked twice tonight. In addition, the four Cardinal runs in the first game were the most Sacramento State has allowed in any contest since March 27 (a span of 13 games).

Sacramento State returns to Pacific Coast Softball Conference play this weekend as the team hosts a four-game series with Portland State. The two teams will play doubleheaders on both Saturday (April 17) and Sunday (April 18) at noon. The Hornets do not have any non-conference games remaining on their schedule.
