SOFTBALL SIGNS FOLSOM HIGH SCHOOL’S NICOLE CLARK

 SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State head softball coach Kathy Strahan announced the fifth signee of its 2012 recruiting class with the inking of 5-foot-4 outfielder Nicole Clark. She will enroll as a freshman at Sacramento State in the fall of 2011.
Clark, who is a local product from Folsom and a left-handed slap hitter, is currently in her third season as a starter with the varsity squad at Folsom High School. In 16 games thus far, she is scoring an average of 1.0 runs per game while batting .413 (19-46) with a .481 on-base percentage, 12 stolen bases, one home run and six RBIs. The 12 stolen bases easily lead the Delta River League, and her batting average is the fourth best mark.
As a junior in 2010, she was a second team all-league choice and the team’s offensive MVP after helping Folsom to a 14-6 overall record and a 6-4 finish in league. Clark also played four years of basketball at Folsom where she was the Delta League’s Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior.
Clark has been a member of the California Grapettes Gold ASA travel team (Lodi, Calif.) for three years. One of her teammates with the Grapettes, pitcher Caitlin Brooks, signed with Sacramento State in November.
“I am excited about the addition of Nicole to our program,” Strahan said. “She is a strong student and will challenge for a spot in the outfield next year. She has terrific speed and a wealth of top level ASA playing experience with the Grapettes organization.”
Clark joins Brooks (Escalon High School pitcher), Alexa Chattleton (Trabuco Hills High School outfielder), Riley Price (Cathedral Catholic High School infielder/outfielder) and Kaitlyn Taylor (Livermore High School infielder) as the five players to sign with Sacramento State for the 2012 season.
