4/16/2009
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) recently awarded Sacramento State’s Jamie Schloredt (softball) and Juan Gamboa (football) its annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award.
The honor recognizes student-athletes dedicated to strength and conditioning, and the NCSC awarded 207 collegiate athletes from 116 schools this year’s award. Schloredt and Gamboa become the first student-athletes in Sacramento State history to receive the honor. The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is currently in its 30th year of existence.
Schloredt, who is currently in her senior season with the softball team, is a three-time first team all-league selection and was awarded Pacific Coast Softball Conference Player of the Year honors last season. She is Sacramento State’s all-time leader in home runs, RBIs and walks, and was recently the 14th overall selection of the National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft by the Chicago Bandits. This season, she is batting .358 while leading the team with nine home runs, 29 RBIs, 17 walks, a .670 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage. Her strength and conditioning testing numbers are listed below the story.
A four-year starter as the Hornets’ kicker, Gamboa was twice named honorable mention all-Big Sky Conference. He led the team in scoring in three of his four seasons and leaves Sacramento State ranked fifth in school history and second among kickers with 203 career points. As a senior, he made 12 field goals and 33 extra points which placed him fifth in school single-season history in both categories. The San Jose, Calif., native also excelled in the classroom where he was a four-time Big Sky all-academic selection. His strength and conditioning testing numbers are listed below.
