SOFTBALL COMPLETES RECRUITING CLASS WITH THE SIGNING OF ERIN JONES
4/9/2009
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State head softball coach Kathy Strahan announced that Antioch High School infielder Erin Jones has signed a National Letter of Intent today and will enroll at the University as a freshman in the fall of 2009.
A native of Antioch, Jones is currently in her fourth season with Antioch High School’s varsity team where she is a four-year starter and three-year team captain. Also a four-year scholar-athlete award recipient at Antioch, Jones is currently playing third base and batting .475 for the Panthers, after a junior season in which she hit .465 with five home runs, an .878 slugging percentage and a .528 on-base percentage.
Jones has also played with the NorCal Shockers since 2006. She has hit better than .375 with the Shockers each of the last two years, including a .378 batting average last year and a .422 mark in 2007.
“Erin is the type of player that will impact us with a great work ethic and desire to excel at this level,” Strahan said. “She is a power hitter with a lot of energy and will be fun to watch.”
Sacramento State’s recruiting class for the 2010 season is now complete as she joins Emily McCormick (Sultana High School in Hesperia, Calif.), Molly Smith (St. Mary’s High School in Phoenix, Ariz.) and Kelli Frye (Norco High School in Norco, Calif.) who were each inked during the early signing period.
Sacramento State (17-18, 3-1 Pacific Coast Softball Conference) returns to action this week when the team hosts Saint Mary’s for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday. The Hornets, who are the defending PCSC champions, have won at least 30 games five times in the last six years.
