SOFTBALL ADDS VALLEJO’S CAITLIN LOWE TO ITS RECRUITING CLASS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State softball program completed its signing class for the 2008 season with the inking of Vallejo High School outfielder/catcher Caitlin Lowe, it was announced today by Hornet head coach Kathy Strahan. Lowe joins two additional players who signed during the fall, and will enroll at Sacramento State as a freshman in the fall of 2007.

Lowe, a 5-7 native of Vallejo, Calif., is currently playing her fourth season of softball for Vallejo High School. An all-Solano County Athletic Conference selection during both her sophomore and junior seasons, including an all-region choice in 2006 when she hit .395, Lowe has led the varsity team in batting average each of the last two years.

A two-sport star for the Apaches (volleyball), Lowe has helped lead this year’s softball team to its current 9-3 overall record and 5-1 mark in league play. She is currently batting .438 with four home runs and 10 runs scored, to go along with a 3.5 grade point average.

“Caitlin is a versatile athlete with phenomenal speed, and she will help us at both catcher and in the outfield,” Strahan said. “She is the type of player that will fit very well into our program. She is also a terrific student and a well rounded individual who comes from a great family.”

Lowe has also been playing for the San Jose Lady Sharks ASA team since 2005, where she has played at both catcher and in the outfield. She led the team in the summer of 2005 with a .475 batting average.

Lowe joins both Megan Schaefer (pitcher/infielder from Southridge High School in Oregon) and Jacqueline Serrano (pitcher from Downey High School in California) who signed during the early period to complete Sacramento State’s recruiting class.

Sacramento State, which has posted at least 30 victories each of the last four seasons, will play its first Pacific Coast Softball Conference home games of the season this weekend when it welcomes Loyola Marymount for a four-game series.
