SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State junior Jillian Bivert was named Big West Conference Softball Player of the Week after leading the Hornets to a 2-1 record over Utah State last week.Bivert, who earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors earlier this season, posted a .455 batting average while hitting safely in all three games of the series. The Woodland, Calif., native went 5-for-11 with three doubles, one walk, two runs scored and a .727 slugging percentage.
Bivert, who also started at pitcher in the first game of Saturday''s doubleheader against Utah State, handled 22 balls in the field flawlessly. The junior currently has a five-game hitting streak and has hit safely in nine of her last 10 games.
Bivert is now hitting .360 for the season, including a .361 mark against Big West competition. She leads the team in numerous offensive categories including hits (41), doubles (eight), slugging percentage (.474), on-base percentage (.430), walks (13), runs (16) and multiple-hit games (14).
Bivert has failed to get a hit in just 12 games and has carried a batting average above .300 since the fifth game of the season.
Sacramento State (15-21, 4-7 Big West) hosts a makeup game against Pacific on Thursday, April 18, at 3 p.m., and a three-game series this weekend against Long Beach State.
