SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State junior Jillian Bivert was named Big West Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week after throwing a five-hit shutout over 19th-ranked Pacific on Sunday.The left-hander allowed just five singles over seven innings while striking out five and allowing just one runner past second base. The Woodland, Calif., native also helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Bivert''s victory snapped Pacific''s nine-game winning streak. In addition, the Tigers had entered the game with a .276 team batting average, the third-best mark in the Big West.
Bivert, who has a 2.23 ERA with three shutouts this season, has also excelled at the plate. She has eight hits in her last 13 at-bats and currently leads the Big West with a .366 batting average. Bivert paces the Hornets in nine offensive categories including batting average, runs (12), slugging percentage (.473), walks (11) and on-base percentage (.438).
Sacramento State (12-18, 1-4 Big West) will take this week off before travelling south to face Cal State Northridge on April 6-7.
