SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State softball players Jillian
Bivert and Lori Meixner were each named to the Big West Conference
all-league second team today.
Bivert, a sophomore from Woodland, Calif., earned the honor after
leading the Hornets in virtually every offensive category including
batting average (.320), hits (54), walks (14), home runs (three),
RBIs (20), on-base percentage (.370), total bases (71), multiple-hit
games (19) and multiple-RBI games (four). In addition, the first
baseman/pitcher led the pitching staff in ERA (1.96), shutouts (five)
and opponents' batting average (.230).
Bivert started all 54 games this season and hit safely in 35 of those
contests including a six-game hitting streak earlier in the season.
Among Big West leaders, Bivert ranked sixth in hits, seventh in
batting average, eighth in total bases, ninth in slugging percentage
and opponents' batting average, and tied for 10th in home runs.
Meixner, a junior from Petaluma, Calif., was named to the second team
after starting all 54 games for the Hornets, including 40 appearances
at second base, nine at third base and five at shortstop. The
multidimensional player led the team with 12 sacrifices and her 149
assists ranks as the fourth-highest single-season total in school
history.
Meixner committed just seven errors in 276 total chances, good for a
team-high .975 fielding percentage among infielders. In addition, she
finished second on the team with 13 walks and recorded a .300 batting
average in Big West games. Meixner now has 368 career assists (fourth
in school history) and is just 127 assists shy of breaking the
school's all-time mark.
Today's honors marked the first time both players were named to the
all-Big West squad.
