WOMEN'S TENNIS DOWNS UC DAVIS IN CAUSEWAY CLASH, 6-1

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The No. 59 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team defeated the visiting UC Davis Aggies by the score of 6-1 in Causeway Cup action on Friday, Feb. 12 at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
With the victory, the Hornets improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Aggies fall to 1-4. The win extended the Hornets lead in the Causeway Cup standings to a margin of 42.50-33.67.
Sacramento State swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead early in the match. Freshman Gayane Sarkisian and senior Aileen Tsan had no trouble with Noelle Eades and Dahra Zamudio of the Aggies, winning 8-1 at No. 3 doubles to start the run. Freshman Rebeca Delgado and sophomore Tatsiana Kapshai then combined for an 8-2 victory over Lauren Curry and Ellie Edles at No. 2 doubles to clinch the Hornets the point. The sweep came later in No. 1 doubles, as sophomore Clarisse Baca and senior Katrina Zheltova took down Herzyl Legaspi and Desiree Stone 8-5 to close out the sweep.
The Hornets closed the match out by winning five of the six singles matches to post the 6-1 victory. Baca posted the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Curry at No. 4 singles, and was quickly followed by Delgado, who defeated Legaspi 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Tsan then collected a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Edles at the No. 5 position, and Zheltova, the No. 26 ranked player in the country, was close behind with a 6-3, 7-6 triumph over Stone.
Next, Kapshai posted a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles over Zamudio in the only match to reach three sets. UC Davis concluded the match by posting their lone point of the day, as Sidney Brady defeated Hornet junior Milica Zivanovic by a score of 7-6, 6-1.
The Hornets return to action on Sat., Feb. 20 as they travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on No. 21 Washington. The first doubles serve is set for 10 a.m. from Seattle.
