LUBBOCK, Texas - The Sacramento State women's basketball team fell to the Texas Tech Lady Raiders by a score of 83-46 on Saturday, December 20 at United Spirit Arena.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 2-8, while Texas Tech improved to 6-4 this season and 3-0 lifetime against the Hornets.
Texas Tech started strong, making their first 10 shots from the field to lead by as many as 25 points in the first half. They took a 40-20 lead into intermission, after shooting 63 percent (17-of-27) over the first 20 minutes..
The Hornets fought back, opening the second half on a 15-10 run to pull to within 15 with 14:15 remaining in the contest. Sophomore Sami Field Polisso (Mountain View, Calif.) scored 11 points, including a trio of three-pointers, during the run. Texas Tech would put the game away, however, outscoring the Hornets 33-11 the rest of the way to take away a victory and remain a perfect 6-0 on their home floor.
Field-Polisso paced the Hornets with a season-high tying 17 points, while junior Erika Edwards (Redmond, Wash.) scored six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Senior Atty Boyer (Sacramento, Calif.) was held below double figures for just the second time this season, scoring six points and grabbing three rebounds in just 19 minutes of action due to foul trouble.
The Lady Raiders were led by Jordan Barncastle and Dominic Seals, who had 12 points apiece, with Seals adding a game-high 10 rebounds.
Texas Tech shot 57.9 percent for the contest (33-of-57), while the Hornets made 31.0 percent of their field goals (18-of-58). The Hornets made seven three-pointers on the contest, while the Lady Raiders countered with five makes from beyond the arc.
