SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento State softball program had five players from the 2017 roster receive the Scholar-Athlete Award from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) after recording a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2016-17 academic year.

The five awards mark the 12th time in the last 13 years Sacramento State has received at least two NFCA Scholar-Athlete selections.

The five players to receive the honor were pitcher Savanna Corr, catcher Nikki Gialketsis, first baseman Jessica Ravetti, infielder Rylee Sager and third baseman Mo Spieth.

Both Gialketsis (mechanical engineering major) and Ravetti (kinesiology) graduated in May. Back in 2018 are Corr, Sager and Spieth, who have each been named to the Big Sky Conference all-academic team during their careers. Corr will be a junior this season while both Sager and Spieth will be sophomores.

Each of the five players contributed to a 2017 season that saw Sacramento State finish with a 21-28-1 overall record and a 10-10 mark in conference. The Hornets won seven of their final 10 games of the season, which included a 15-0 win over Southern Utah in the conference tournament.

Sacramento State begins the 2018 season at home when the team hosts a tournament on Feb. 10-11.

NOTE: The softball program entered the current academic year with an overall team grade point average of 3.058.
