SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State second-year softball head coach Lori Perez announced the program's 2015 schedule today.

The schedule includes what could amount to 52 regular season games, comprised of 24 at home, 14 on the road and 14 at neutral sites. After a one-year hiatus, the Capital Classic returns as the Hornets, Penn State, Loyola Marymount, Fairleigh Dickinson and Grand Canyon will compete over four days at Shea Stadium from March 12-15.

In addition, two years after the Hornets and Cal played in front of a sellout crowd of over 1,200 spectators, the Golden Bears return to Shea Stadium for a game on Wednesday, March 25. Sacramento State will also host Northern California rivals Saint Mary's (Feb. 21), Pacific (Feb. 24) and UC Davis (April 8).

In fact, the Feb. 21 matchup with Saint Mary's will be a doubleheader and serve as Sacramento State's home opener. The Hornets begin the season with tournaments on back-to-back weekends at the So Cal Collegiate Classic (Feb. 6-7) and the Fresno State Kickoff (Feb. 13-15).

After the Hornets play three straight at home against Saint Mary's and Pacific, its back to the road where the team will play 10 straight away from home, including its first-ever appearance at the CSUN/LMU Tournament (Feb. 27-March 1) as well as a matchup with Causeway rival UC Davis (March 10).

Sacramento State kicks off Capital Classic play on March 12 against Penn State, and that begins a season-long 13-game homestand that includes three-game home series with Big Sky Conference foes Northern Colorado (March 20-21) and Montana (March 28-29). Each of the Hornets' first six Big Sky games take place at home, and 12 of the program's 21 league games will be played inside the friendly confines. Montana will begin its first season of softball this year and become the Big Sky's eighth softball-playing institution.

Three-game road series at Southern Utah (April 3-4) and North Dakota (April 10-11) surround the Hornets' home game against UC Davis on April 8. After a road contest at Pacific on April 15, Sacramento State jumps back into league play with three-game home series against Idaho State (April 17-18) and Weber State (April 24-25). It was Idaho State that finished a half game ahead of the Hornets to win last year's Big Sky regular season title. The Hornets' game against Weber State on April 25 will serve as Senior Day.

Sacramento State concludes the regular season at Portland State for three games on May 1-2. The Big Sky Championships, which will be hosted by the league's regular season champion, will take place May 7-9.

NOTES --  The Hornets, who finished last season at 25-21 overall and 12-4 in the Big Sky, return 16 players, including eight positional starters and three pitchers…among the returners are nine players that received some form of all-league accolade, a list which includes Big Sky Pitcher of the Year Caitlin Brooks and first team all-conference third baseman Alexis Martinez…the fall schedule, which includes six games and an Alumni Game, begins Oct. 11 at home against UC Davis at 10 a.m…the full Capital Classic schedule has yet to be finalized.
